In October 2023, the TV serie Hellbound Village officially premiered and quickly became a cinematic phenomenon, attracting a lot of attention from the general audience. Following the success of Hellbound Village, the names and acting skills of many young actors became more widely known and recognized, among them Hai Nam – who played the role of the hunter, often called Mr Duc. With his handsome face and well-proportioned physique, coupled with his strong acting skills, Hai Nam quickly won the affection of viewers. In October 2024, audiences will see Hai Nam again on the big screen as the prince in Con Cam – the most anticipated Vietnamese horror movie of late 2024.

From Mr Duc in Hellbound Village to the Prince in Con Cam Movie

Born in 1996, Hai Nam is a cross-trained actor who graduated from the University of Transport but pursued an artistic career thanks to his striking appearance and a series of fortunate events. He emerged as a phenomenon after participating in the show Quy Ong Dai Chien and impressively won the championship. Gradually, Hai Nam affirmed his acting abilities through a variety of roles from short films to feature films such as Chi Dung Day Cho Em Den, Chi Co The La Em, 10 Nam Hang Xom, 1990, and others. In 2023, his fame skyrocketed with the role of Mr Duc in the acclaimed historical horror series Hellbound Village. Although he possesses a handsome, scholarly appearance, Hai Nam excellently portrayed Mr Duc – the hunter who must struggle and survive in the muddy, dirty conditions of the hellbound village. After Mr Duc, Hai Nam was once again trusted by director Tran Huu Tan to take on the role of the Prince in the horror film Con Cam: “Besides his handsome appearance, which fits the role of the Prince perfectly, Hai Nam is a very dedicated actor who constantly strives to improve his acting skills. He is also incredibly creative, often engaging in discussions with me during filming to deliver the best performance for his character,” shared director Tran Huu Tan on why he chose Hai Nam for the role of the Prince.

Hai Nam invested meticulously in preparing to become the Prince

Unlike the simple, rustic image of the hunter in Hellbound Village, the role prince in Con Cam requires the actor to display regal elegance in every gesture and action. To prepare for this role, Hai Nam underwent intense training with an action director, learned horse riding, archery, and also delved deeply into history and culture to better understand the psychology and behavior of the character.

Hai Nam spent a lot of time practicing the demeanor of a prince

“The prince played by Hai Nam is a man of high stature and skilled in both the arts and martial arts, proficient in horse riding, archery, and sword fighting. He also has a curious personality, eager to learn about the world outside the royal palace from a young age to better understand the lives of the people, thus creating a closer bond with them”, Hai Nam enthusiastically shared about his role as the prince. Con Cam is a bloody horror adaptation inspired by the fairy tale Tam Cam, so the characters in the fairy tale will have many changes, and the role of the prince played by Hai Nam is no exception: “In the fairy tale Tam Cam, the character is only a prince, but in Con Cam he is the crown prince, showing the greater trust that the king places in him. Moreover, the crown prince will have many psychologically intense scenes, displaying more colorful and individual personality traits”, Hai Nam confided.

Hai Nam looks forward to the impressive scenes of princes riding horses in the movie

To best embody the role of the Crown Prince, Hai Nam did not hesitate to learn martial arts, horse riding, archery, and practiced diligently: “As soon as i heard i was cast as the crown prince, Nam immediately signed up for sword fighting, horse riding, and archery classes. Nam learned sword fighting and further studied the physique to bring out the most authentic Vietnamese essence. Whenever i had free time, i would hold a 2 to 3 kg stone to strengthen my wrist. I also actively practiced archery. With horse riding, Nam trained extensively and is very much looking forward to the scenes of the crown prince riding a horse in the film,” he said. The actor greatly anticipated the psychologically heavy segments of the crown prince, knowing this was the opportunity to portray the depth of the character: “The crown prince will have a heavy psychological scene. This scene requires the crown prince to show strong psychological shifts from shock and anger to determination. However, thanks to this scene, the character of the crown prince will have more depth. Nam hopes that after the film is released, the audience will see a more interesting crown prince than the prince in the fairy tale and love the character played by Hai Nam even more,” he confided. Thanks to his appearance and diligent, humble spirit towards his acting career, Hai Nam promises to bring a compelling and impressive crown prince in the horror movie Con Cam. Movie Con Cam is produced by ProductionQ, along with the crews of Hellbound Village  and The Soul Reaper. The movie is a bloody horror version inspired by the famous fairy tale Tam Cam, scheduled to premiere in September 2024.
