Director Adrián García Bogliano embarks on a groundbreaking journey with his latest film, “La Exorcista,” pushing the boundaries of contemporary storytelling. In a daring departure from the Church’s traditional code of conduct, the film introduces Sister Ofelia (María Evoli) as the first nun to assume the role of an exorcist instead of a priest. As the plot unfolds, particularly in the recently released gripping scenes, Bogliano’s intention to transcend conventional limits becomes even more evident.
Evil Spirits – Unforgiving Even to Children
Right from the first encounter at the home of a pregnant widow, the malevolent spirit seizes control of the vulnerable mother’s body, transforming her into a demonic entity that shows no fear towards holy relics. Not stopping there, the devil assumes a tangible form capable of instilling terror in all who cross its path. Its cunning nature becomes increasingly apparent as it relentlessly challenges Sister Ofelia and her ally, Father Victor, in their desperate attempt to save the lives of the mother and child.
Just when you thought the story reached its climax, the demonic presence, with eyes like serpents, turns its own body against it, seeking to harm the unborn child. The evil spirit then inflicts excruciating torment upon the pregnant woman’s body, convulsing, contorting, and crawling.

The evil entity that Sister Ofelia confronts is no ordinary demon, as it possesses the ability to manifest in various forms—be it a person or an object. Even in its weakened state, it remains a lurking threat, cursing the innocent from the shadows. Once it gains enough power to possess a living body, it subjects its victims to cruel and relentless torture. The trailer itself reveals the demon’s audacity in harming Father Victor, compelling Sister Ofelia to embark on a relentless pursuit, despite the ever-shifting nature of the demon’s tactics. The stakes are raised further as the demon’s plan involves seizing a host body, setting the exorcism team—comprised of Father Victor, Sister Ofelia, and Brother Fabian (Ramón Medína)—on a race against time. According to Victor’s father, the demon, with 36 names, needs only two sunsets to fully revive within its chosen vessel. This heightened urgency propels the film forward, placing Sister Ofelia in the role of an “exorcist heroine” and challenging the very fabric of the exorcist world.
A Message of Unwavering Faith
Adrián García Bogliano’s affinity for the horror genre stems from his childhood experiences watching movies with his parents in the 1980s. Now, he seeks to challenge societal stereotypes through the character of Ofelia, a young nun who arrives in town and is compelled to perform an exorcism after the local priest succumbs to the devil’s influence. Throughout the film, Ofelia’s unwavering faith becomes her guiding force, enabling her to carry on where Father Victor fell short. Her personal history adds further motivation to shield Sandra (Pilar Santacruz) and her unborn child from the clutches of evil.
